This is a story about the portal in your walk-in closet, the ways it differs from the portals you dreamt of as a child, and whether there&#8217;s magic of a sort in there anyway. Here&#8217;s a snippet, after the unnamed narrator first discovers the portal: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Your first thought is: <em>this is why we got the house for less than asking.<\/em> Your next is of the days, long ago, when you would have given anything to have your closet open onto another world, like something out of a childhood story. But now, instead of childlike wonder, there\u2019s middle-aged apathy, and instead of snowflakes in lantern-light there\u2019s\u2026this.
